You can`t escape my fears!
"Connected" is a project, a metaphor, that aims to present how our actions affect the urban ecosystem. What we do reflects in the outside world, and then this world responds. There are no moral or immoral responses. What is ethical, beneficial, or evil is our translation of the outcome.
Please consider the urban ecosystem is more than the city surrounding us. It also contains our feelings, expectations, smiles, fears, disappointments, crushes, or any vibe on the endless ocean of human nature.
Perhaps, to better understand what the "connected" considers "urban surroundings," it`s time to revisit the Baradian term "Intraaction," which acknowledges the impossibility of absolute separation or classically understood objectivity.
Furthermore, the project`s statement is deeply political. Think about how easy it is for populists to trigger people`s disquietude by using what the party fears.
Let`s go back to the project.
As I usually say, "Connected" is an interactive installation. There are the visitors and the installation. No matter what the visitor does there, it interacts with the rest of the installation. The visitor becomes a part of the installation. As a part of it, it observes and is a subject of observation. The visitor`s mood diffracts and collides with the rest of the audience, and finally, reality collapses in a holistic new mental state.
How did this magic happen?
We use technology (a lot of technology) to track what the audience is doing during the visit. But we have some concerns about what tracking means. This technology is a combination of hardware and software. Hardware contains sensors, motors, lasers, microphones, etc. The software records data and creates responses.
There are some rules about what and how the software is monitoring:
- Audience actions which software follows:
a. People`s movements around the installation place.
b. Constantly measure the temperature and humidity of the exhibition space.
c. Also, monitor if there is a sound louder than a limit.
d. How people are grouping in the space.
- The software follows a person`s actions but doesn`t record this behavior, attaching the person`s identification data.
- It records data for just a few minutes. Later, it deletes all recorded data from any device, including servers.
- The project doesn`t use any service provided by a third if this service demands behavior data exchange. So, no GOOGLE, FACEBOOK, etc
We feed the data we collect from the audience to specific software. The software creates visualizations, sounds, or other responses. Right now, we are experimenting with different possible visualizations and responses. Stay tuned. We will publish stories about these algorithms and codes we are experimenting with.
The People Behind Project
The basic idea comes from me and my life experience. I expressed the idea to some good friends, and finally, the project started to form. I have received help for this project from people who work for PUBBUH.
Who am I
My name is Andreas Machairas; I love to join art projects. I am a software developer based in Berlin, working with clients worldwide. I work with PYTHON, C#, and JAVASCRIPT; I have developed a bouquet of web services named "PHYGITAL CONCEPT." With "PC," I build web applications, e-shops, websites, etc. The main idea of "PC" is to use Augmented Reality techniques for content sharing, marketing, and brand management. If you want to learn more about me, I`ll be happy if you join me on my social media:

What are the project`s next Steps?
We want a coherent project design until the end of 2024. In 2025, we will start to look for artists` participation (we need artists for this project) and funding. Funding is critical not only for us but also for the artists!
Conclusion
Stay tuned; we will publish details about the project soon. Remember, your interventions are always beneficial.
